We were lucky we both had access to footage from skating and football; although the football season is over, but there was ample amount of footage taken during every practice and game. I was fortunate enough to have video clips, taken during Skater / Parent’s Weekend exhibition. We conducted student-athlete interviews on separate days due time conflicts for each student. During this time, the documentary was being edited while continuing to add new parts. Overall, this made the project a little less overwhelming because it was complete in sections rather than all at one time.

So far, I have an 18 minute video filled with both skating and football coverage…from practice, games, performances and exhibitions. Our goal to compare the lives of student athletes through both of these sports. Tonight, Sarah M is going to interview me in the skating locker room and she will do the same with a player on the football team. We will compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the two.

There is something about digital media that drawer’s user in day after day. Whether it is the television, computers, Mac Notebooks, iphones, blackberries or new and improved computer software, there is something about it society loves.  Digital media has been used to develop social networking and communicating for works, businesses and our social life. The Digital Age moves at an extreme rapid pace, with new technological advances added to our lives daily. It’s crazy to think what life was like before we had Google, Youtube, email and Facebook. There are several area of digital media I enjoy, but it is the digital photography and graphic images I like most of all.

There was a day when people only carried around film cameras, developing their prints in dark rooms with chemicals and thick paper. Now a day, most use digital cameras. I’m not exactly sure how I became so fascinated with photography, but I think I grew an appreciation for looking at things with an artistic eye. After learning the basics, I used my imagination and creative mind to interpret a picture or image in a different light. I like the idea of taking pictures from a unique perspective rather than taking a straight on snapshot of a picture.

Here are some of the ideas I have floating through my brain so far:

-At the end of the skating season, we have a “name game” video that helps describe each person’s personality on the team. I’d like to use the clip about myself to show what I am like to my audience.

-Scrapbook videos and fun clips from past seasons

-An inside “all-access” interview with my friends and me

-Capture video clips from Wednesday’s individual skills

-Get a hold of individual tryout program

-Hold a segment “When I was young … focus on me growing up in the sport and what it’s done to me…”

-The question I have to remind myself throughout this project: “How will this type of project change the focal point in comparsion to my digital story and past projects?”

Part 2 of Final Project:

-Create a photobook with text. Describe what these photos mean to me and how I perceive them rather than just showing them

-What’s my perspective of the skating, through ‘my eyes’

-Speak in 1st person

There are hundreds cuts and edits throughout the digital story project. I used my audio essay to guide me with ideas help to produce the story. I look forward to sharing my video and seeing my classmates projects during class.
